In an exploration of facade, temptation, and perspective, the violist plays the role of a

femme fatale, (n. an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who will ultimately

bring disaster to a man who becomes involved with her), while the pianist acts as the victim

of her schemes, until, in the final movement, it is revealed that the temptress is the true victim.
